The next version 0.11 of Horde is close to being finished. It adds a plenty of new features and improvements. Here is a short list of what you can expect:
  • New Horde Integration Library which makes it much easier to use the engine with other middleware like a physics engine (see physics demo announced in another thread)
  • Configurable particle systems which can cast shadows and reveive lighting
  • Increase of the bone limit from 59 to 79 joints
  • Hierarchical class system for materials, making it possible to address special geometry in the pipeline
  • Alpha blending for all geometry (for creating translucent materials)
  • Enormous speed improvement of the Collada converter
  • New sample showing animation blending and particle systems
  • Improved documentation including a usage guide and better tutorial
  • Plenty of smaller bug fixes

The code is nearly finished, what still needs to be done is updating the docs and a bit more testing with our internal projects.

Sounds great :D keep up the good work!

How is the alpha blending implemented; is it compatible with a deferred pipeline?

Thanks! :)

There is no good solution for using alpha blending with deferred shading (unfortunately a ShaderX5 article confirmed that). But thanks to the configurable pipeline you could render the translucent materials using forward shading after the deferred passes. By the way the integration of translucency is not yet perfect, currently objects are not sorted back to front. This will come in another update...
